This training is designed to help URJC students learn about and utilize multidisciplinary electronic resources as direct support for their studies, assignments, and research projects. During this learning experience, participants will learn how to access academic databases, e-books, specialized journals, and academic search engines covering various fields of knowledge, and how to use them practically to locate up-to-date and reliable scientific information. The course aims to promote the independent and critical use of these resources, providing simple strategies for conducting effective searches, filtering results, consulting online documents, and managing them for use in academic work (including proper citation). In this way, the library becomes a key tool for improving the quality of university work and strengthening students' information literacy skills. What you will learn
The course is designed to teach you how to independently use the main multidisciplinary electronic resources, allowing you to develop skills to locate, select and use academic information from different areas of knowledge through the tools available in the University Library.
The course will cover:
- Multidisciplinary electronic resources: understanding what they are, what they are for and how they are integrated into academic work (databases, electronic books and journals, academic search engines).
- Academic databases: practical use of different databases to search for scientific articles, reports, conference proceedings and other specialized documents.
- Electronic books and journals: access to online manuals, monographs and periodicals, as well as use of their main reading and consultation functionalities.
- Academic search engines and other resources: use of tools such as Google Scholar and journal portals to complement searches and keep up with current scientific developments.
- Search strategies and responsible use: application of effective searches, basic evaluation of the quality of sources and proper citation of consulted documents.
Requirements
- No prior knowledge is necessary, as this is an introductory course for students interested in learning about the URJC Library.
- Given the general nature of the course, no prior qualification is required.

Enrollment and participation in a URJC course is free. There are absolutely no academic penalties for dropping out. You can enroll in the same course and/or others (as long as they are still being offered) at a later time.
When does my course start and end?
This course is designed to be self-paced. There's no need to start at a specific time, although a learning pace of one topic per week is recommended.
How do I pass the course?
At the end of each module you will be assessed with a test on the basic concepts learned.
RAC credit validation
This course is part of the training itinerary for students who enroll in the training activity "Search and management of scientific information" with which 1 ECTS credit will be obtained for the subject of Academic Recognition of Credits.
