Description

This training is designed to help students at Rey Juan Carlos University learn about and use RefWorks as a direct support tool for their studies, academic work, and research projects. Throughout the course, participants will learn to manage bibliographic references effectively, from creating their account and organizing information into folders and projects, to importing, viewing, and cleaning records, including removing duplicates and using features such as Save to RefWorks.

In addition, the course covers the integration of RefWorks with Microsoft Word using RefWorks Citation Manager (RCM), which will allow you to insert citations into documents and automatically generate bibliographies in different styles, facilitating the academic writing process.

In addition, an overview of other bibliographic managers such as Zotero and Mendeley will be offered, so that students can learn about alternatives and expand their skills in information management.

The aim of this course is to promote the independent, organized, and responsible use of bibliographic references, contributing to improved quality in academic work and strengthening students' information literacy skills, making the library a key resource in their academic development. What you will learn

The course is designed to teach you how to use RefWorks, the bibliographic manager of Rey Juan Carlos University, independently, allowing you to develop skills to organize, manage and cite academic information effectively in your university work.

The course will cover:

  • RefWorks: The URJC's bibliographic manager: Understanding what RefWorks is, its purpose, and how it integrates into academic work. You will learn how to access the tool from the University Library, create an account, organize references using projects and folders, import and manage records, identify and delete duplicates, share information, and use features such as Save to RefWorks.
  • Reference management and organization: Practical use of RefWorks to store, view and organize bibliography, facilitating the efficient management of academic information and its reuse in different works.
  • RefWorks Integration with Word (RCM): You will learn what RefWorks Citation Manager (RCM) is, how to install and use it in Microsoft Word to insert citations in the text and automatically generate bibliographies in different styles, optimizing the writing of academic documents.
  • Other bibliographic managers: Introduction to alternative tools such as Zotero and Mendeley, in order to learn about different bibliographic management options and their main features.
  • Effective use and good practices: Application of good practices in reference management, organization of information and proper citation of sources, contributing to a responsible use of information in the academic field.

Requirements

  • No prior knowledge is necessary, as this is an introductory course for students interested in learning about the URJC Library.
  • Given the general nature of the course, no prior qualification is required.

You can download your certificate of completion free of charge once you have completed all the required course activities. The certificate will confirm your successful completion of the course and will include the total number of hours.

Enrollment and participation in a URJC course is free. There are absolutely no academic penalties for dropping out. You can enroll in the same course and/or others (as long as they are still being offered) at a later time.

This course is designed to be self-paced. There's no need to start at a specific time, although a learning pace of one topic per week is recommended.

At the end of each module you will be assessed with a test on the basic concepts learned.

This course is part of the training itinerary for students who enroll in the training activity "Search and management of scientific information" with which 1 ECTS credit will be obtained for the subject of Academic Recognition of Credits.
