Description

The Open Access course offers a clear and practical introduction to open access in the context of current scientific research. Throughout the course, the fundamentals of open access, its evolution, and the various ways to publish openly are explored, including how to choose the most appropriate method for each type of publication. The different types of open licenses are also covered, with particular attention to Creative Commons licenses, which allow for the legal and transparent sharing of knowledge. Furthermore, transformative agreements are explained, along with how to leverage those signed by Rey Juan Carlos University. The course highlights the benefits of open access, such as increased visibility, impact, and reuse of research. It is part of the URJC Open Science training pathway, available on URJCx, and is recommended to be taken in conjunction with the other courses.

What you will learn

The "Open Access" course is designed to provide an introductory understanding of open access in the current context of scientific research. The course covers:

  • Concept and evolution of open access
  • Ways to publish publicly, types of routes, and how to select the most suitable one
  • Types of open licenses, especially Creative Commons, which allow knowledge to be shared legally and transparently
  • Transformative agreements: what they are, how they work, and how to benefit from those signed by the Rey Juan Carlos University Library
  • Benefits of open access, such as increased visibility, impact, and reuse of research

Training itinerary

This course is part of an Open Science training program designed by the URJC library (BURJC), which includes the following courses that will be available on URJCx:

  • Introduction to Open Science
  • Open Access
  • BURJC-Digital
  • Open data (PGD and e-scienceData) and OER

It is recommended to complete all the courses in the itinerary to acquire a complete and practical vision of Open Science and its application in the academic and scientific field.

Requirements

  • No prior knowledge is necessary, as this is an introductory course aimed at people interested in cross-cutting aspects related to Open Access
  • Given the general nature of the course, no prior qualification is required, although it may be considered especially interesting for research staff at URJC.

Since 2008, he has served as administrator of the BURJC Digital institutional repository, leading its technical and strategic management. Throughout these years, he has actively participated in working groups at both the regional and national levels, contributing to the development and strengthening of policies and best practices in the field of scientific repositories.

Since 2022, he has collaborated closely with the BURJC training group, promoting initiatives aimed at training and supporting the university community in the use and benefit of the institutional repository.
